After getting the go-ahead from Supreme Court of India, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is all set to declare NEET 2017 results. The Board has set in motion the process for declaring the NEET 2017 Results. On Monday, it issued the dates for display of images of OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) response sheets and the answer keys for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (UG) 2017 which was held on May 7.
The swift action from CBSE came hours after the Supreme Court stayed the Madras high court order and asked CBSE to declare the NEET 2017 results by June 26. The images of OMR sheets and responses of questions has been displayed on June 13, 2017 and the candidates had been given two day time from June 13 to June 14, 2017 till 5pm to challenge it.
Similarly the display of answer keys and challenge dates for it are June 15 and 16, 2017 till 5pm. The challenge period has been reduced to two days instead of three as mentioned in the information bulletin. To check the scanned image of OMR sheet, the candidate will have to log-in into their NEET 2017 account by using their registration number as ID and password on NEET website.
Any challenge to the responses of OMR sheet and answers prepared by CBSE will have to accompany by Rs 1000 per response/per question as a fees. Only online challenges within stipulated period and with applicable fee will be considered, said CBSE.
The NEET 2017 results was to be declared on June 8. However, the Madras High Court has stayed all proceedings of NEET 2017 exam on the batch of petitions filed by candidates and their parents for cancellation of NEET 2017.
NEET 2017 was conducted in 10 languages and different languages had different sets of question papers. Some students have challenged this pattern, arguing that by framing different question papers, CBSE had denied them a level playing field. They said, instead, the Board could have translated a common question paper. They alleged that Indian language question papers were tougher than the English. On this ground, Madras high courts has granted interim injunction asking government not to publish results until June 7.
The high court has asked Union health and family welfare secretary, DG health services, Medical Council of India (MCI), Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Government of Tamil Nadu to reply by June 7.
On Friday, CBSE moved the Supreme Court seeking an immediate stay on the Madras High court order restraining the publication of results of NEET 2017 for admission to MBBS and BDS courses across the country.
CBSE mentioned the matter before a vacation bench comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan and Deepak Gupta and said that due to the high court’s order, the entire schedule of counselling and subsequent admission for medical courses through NEET has gone “haywire”.
Appearing for CBSE, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Maninder Singh told the bench that National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) examination 2017 was conducted by the board and around 12 lakh candidates have appeared in it. The apex court had said it would hear on June 12 the matter which concerns the fate of around 12 lakh aspirants for MBBS and BDS courses.
After hearing the arguments, on Monday, the Supreme Court (SC) ordered that the NEET 2017 results be declared by June 26, thereby overruling a stay the Madras high court had issued. The top court also directed all high courts not to entertain any petition on the NEET 2017 results.
CBSE NEET 2017 is an entrance examination for students who wish to study any graduate medical course – MBBS or BDS – in government or private medical colleges in India. NEET 2017 replaces the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) and all individual MBBS exams conducted by states or colleges themselves.
Undergraduate courses at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, Postgraduate Institute for Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research JIPMER are outside the NEET’s purview.
