Head of Amazon India, Manish Tiwary, has resigned from his position, marking a significant shift in the company’s leadership. Tiwary, who has been with Amazon since 2016, will be pursuing new opportunities outside the company. His resignation will be effective in October 2024, ensuring a smooth transition period, said the company.
Tiwary’s tenure at Amazon India has been notable for his contributions to the company’s growth and market dominance in the region. Before joining Amazon, Tiwary had a successful career at Unilever, where he held various leadership roles. At Amazon, he played a crucial role in expanding the company’s operations, enhancing customer and seller experiences, and solidifying Amazon.in as a leading marketplace in India.
Amazon has yet to announce Tiwary’s successor but has emphasised its commitment to the Indian market, with Amit Agarwal, Senior Vice President of Emerging Markets, remaining closely involved with the Indian team. The transition comes at a challenging time for Amazon India, as the company navigates competitive pressures and regulatory scrutiny.
During his leadership, Tiwary faced various challenges, including allegations in 2021 that Amazon manipulated search results and given undue favour to its own product lines. Amazon has denied these claims, but the allegations brought significant attention to the company’s practices in India.
Tiwary’s departure is seen as the end of an era for Amazon India, where his leadership helped the company achieve key milestones despite a highly competitive environment. His future plans have not been disclosed, but it is reported that he will be joining another organisation.
This leadership change comes as Amazon continues to emphasise its long-term commitment to the Indian market, which remains a critical area for its global operations and growth.
