Bangladesh: e-Orange dodged Tk13 lakh VAT

According to the VAT detectives, the VAT detectives raided the e-Orange online shopping hub located in Gulshan of the capital and uncovered VAT evasion of Tk13 lakh.

Dhaka: The Directorate of VAT Audit Intelligence and Investigation has uncovered data of Tk 13 lakh VAT evasion by conducting a raid on the e-Orange platform.

At the same time, a case has been filed in their name under the VAT Act. Director-General of the Department of VAT Intelligence confirmed the matter on Thursday Moinul Khan.

He said: “VAT detectives had uncovered Tk13 lakh VAT evasion by raiding the office of e-Orange online shopping company located in Gulshan of the capital. A case has been filed against the company under the VAT Act today as evidence of VAT evasion was found.”

According to the VAT detectives, the VAT detectives raided the e-Orange online shopping hub located in Gulshan of the capital and uncovered VAT evasion of Tk13 lakh.

A search of the company’s Gulshan-1 office found VAT detectives selling various products on e-Orange, an online platform. But they do not pay the VAT levied on the commission received properly.

The operation was launched on June 8 the led by Tanvir Ahmed, deputy director of the VAT , on allegations of massive revenue evasion.

The owner of the company was present during the operation. During the operation, various accounts of the organization were searched and the accounts were seized.

As seen, the company purchased a total of Tk245 crore 75 lakh 53 thousand 215 services and products in a given period. And Tk249 crore sells 63 lakh 47 thousand 710 services products.

From where the commission of e-orange comes Tk3 crore 87 lakh 98 thousand 495.

The total VAT at the rate of 5 % on the commission received is 19 lakh 39 thousand 925 takas but the company has paid only 6 lakh 23 thousand 767.

The online shopping company has evaded Tk13 lakh 16 thousand 158 VAT of the government by concealing the actual sales information.

The VAT detective further said that the case was filed for violating the e-Orange VAT Act on charges of concealing sales information and being involved in VAT evasion.

The report of the case has been sent to the Customs, Excise, and VAT Commissionerate of Dhaka North under its jurisdiction.
