Every year on 11 May, India observes National Technology Day, commemorating the 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests that demonstrated the nation’s scientific prowess. Over the years, this day has transformed into a platform to celebrate India’s technological advancements across artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, cybersecurity and sustainable infrastructure.
As we mark this occasion in 2025, industry leaders said that AI has transitioned from research labs to mainstream business applications across sectors. Enterprises are leveraging AI to transform operations, enhance customer experiences and drive innovation.
Amit Luthra, Managing Director, Lenovo ISG India said: “From BFSI to manufacturing and healthcare, enterprises are reimagining how they operate, serve customers and innovate – powered by AI and data. 51% of Indian organisations are scaling AI initiatives to stay competitive in a fast-evolving landscape.”
Building on this momentum, the adoption of autonomous AI systems has been particularly noteworthy. Piyush Agarwal, SE Leader-India, Cloudera noted: “84% of Indian organizations have implemented AI agents in the past two years, with 36% doing so in just the last 12 months. This upward trend is expected to continue, with 98% planning to expand usage and 78% targeting organization-wide deployment.”
The AI revolution is underpinned by robust data analytics capabilities, which are becoming increasingly critical for business success. Organizations are focusing on deriving real-time insights from their growing data repositories.
Expanding on this point, Karthik Rajaram, Area Vice President & General Manager, Elastic India explained: “As data volumes surge and AI adoption accelerates, organizations must effectively search, analyse and act on their data in real time. At Elastic, we harness the power of search to solve complex problems across AI, security and observability.”
However, this data-driven transformation brings security challenges that cannot be ignored. Anjali Amar, Vice President & Country Head, India and SAARC, Cloudflare cautioned: “As India adopts AI, cloud and digital transformation at scale, our collective focus must shift from reactive security to proactive cyber resilience. We believe true innovation must be secure, sustainable and inclusive.”
Beyond digital transformation, technology is playing a crucial role in addressing India’s sustainability challenges, particularly in urban infrastructure.
Elaborating on this critical intersection, Sivakumar Selvaganapathy, Vice President at OpenBlue India Software Engineering & APAC Solutions, Johnson Controls observed: “With buildings accounting for nearly 33% of the country’s total electricity consumption, the integration of intelligent systems, capable of managing energy, air quality and operations in real time, is becoming essential.”
This perspective is further reinforced by Mahesh Ramanujam, President & CEO, Global Network for Zero who added: “As India pursues its net zero targets and the broader vision of Viksit Bharat, technology must be positioned as an enabler of systemic transformation, where buildings, infrastructure and communities function as interconnected ecosystems.”
As technology advances, industry leaders emphasise the importance of inclusive growth and digital empowerment – a crucial dimension of India’s tech story.
Sooraj Balakrishnan, Associate Director & Head of Marketing, Acer India said: “At Acer, we see technology not just as tools, but as a powerful force that connects aspirations with real-world outcomes. Our mission is empowering youth, nurturing creativity and driving digital inclusion.”
This vision of responsible technology is echoed by Ram Meenakshisundaram, Chief Technology Officer, Virtusa who noted: “On National Technology Day 2025, we celebrate the power of technology to build a more sustainable and responsible future. We focus on harnessing cutting-edge innovation to solve today’s most pressing business and environmental challenges.”
As India celebrates National Technology Day, the focus extends beyond commemorating past achievements to addressing future challenges. The rapid pace of digital transformation presents both opportunities and responsibilities – from securing critical infrastructure to ensuring equitable access to technology benefits.
The coming years will test India’s ability to balance technological innovation with security concerns, economic growth with environmental sustainability, and digital advancement with social inclusion. How these challenges are addressed will determine whether India’s technology story becomes one of comprehensive, inclusive progress, said industry leaders.
National Technology Day serves as both a celebration of India’s technological capabilities and a reminder of the work that remains. The true measure of success will lie not just in technological achievements, but in their ability to improve lives across India’s diverse socioeconomic spectrum, said a senior industry leader.
