Data protection and management firm Commvault, has announced the integration of Microsoft 365 Backup Storage into its Cloud Backup and Recovery solution for Microsoft 365. According to the company, the new feature aims to enhance cyber resilience and simplify administration for hybrid cloud organisations.
The Commvault Cloud platform, built on Microsoft Azure, now includes Premium Microsoft 365 Backup Storage. The American company states that this integration offers joint customers improved data protection and recovery options, allowing enterprises to utilise Microsoft 365 Backup Storage for point-in-time recovery of critical Microsoft 365 workloads, such as Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
The company claims the new solution provides extended retention, granular recovery, and self-restore options, enabling customers to tailor their protection and recovery levels based on specific workloads. Commvault aims to enhance efficiency and restorability while minimising costs with this offering.
“We are building on our 27+ years of co-development and co-engineering with this integrated solution that helps customers achieve the highest level of cyber resilience and threat readiness, along with the ability to greatly improve recovery time to specific Microsoft 365 workloads. We are excited about the advantages and efficiencies the combined solution brings to our joint customers and partners,” said Tirthankar Chatterjee, Chief Technology Officer, Hyperscalers, Commvault.
This comes on the back of the company’s recent introduction of its Platform Release 2024, which added capabilities like Cleanroom Recovery and Threatwise Advisor to help enterprises improve their cyber resilience and recovery processes.
Zach Rosenfield, Partner Director of PM, Collaborative Apps and Platforms, Microsoft, said, “With this integration, Commvault has taken a major step in helping our joint customers keep their business running with fast operational recovery from cyberattacks. We look forward to continuing to work together with them to make customers’ data more resilient.”
The announcement follows the recent global IT outage related to a CrowdStrike update, which affected over 8.5 million Windows devices and disrupted various services worldwide, underlining the importance of resilient backup solutions. Commvault’s integration with Microsoft 365 Backup Storage aims to provide reliable data recovery and continuity for businesses in response to similar disruptions.
Commvault Cloud Backup and Recovery for Microsoft 365 is expected to be available later this quarter, the company said.
