Dhaka — The Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh has said that officials of e-commerce company Evaly will be summoned over the allegations. He was responding to a question from reporters after a meeting with stakeholders on e-commerce issues at the Secretariat on Sunday.
The secretary said Evaly would be called, to show cause. They will be asked to give a business plan. “We had a meeting today to discuss the emerging situation in e-commerce,” he said.
In particular, Bangladesh Bank, ICT Department, Competition Commission, Consumer Rights, e-Cab and all have had fruitful discussions. I have discussed and agreed on a few issues.
In light of the e-commerce guidelines that we published on July 4, we will consider all the judgments as to which companies are failing to comply with the guidelines that are here.
The one who fails will first be shown the reason, how will he be sustainable in the business plan that he will give us in a few days time? If it is not compliant with the prevailing law of Bangladesh, then maybe we will take action against the company.
In the case of the system, it may be in the customary law of Bangladesh, said Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh.
He said : if any person or business is harmed for e-commerce, he can sue according to the law, seek redressal. That too is open.
“We need to make some more changes to our guidelines or digital commerce policies,” he said.
We have received such advice as to redeem the customer with the customer's money or to develop the business by using the customer's money in advance so that it cannot do business.
In light of this we are taking action. In the long run, we will try to reform our law somewhere. We have also come up with a recommendation to enact a self-contained law for digital commerce.
