To comply with the European Union’s (EU) increasingly stringent data privacy and sovereignty regulations, Oracle has launched its new EU Sovereign Cloud. The company said that service is intended to provide private and organisations across the EU with greater control over their data.

The EU Sovereign Cloud, entirely within the EU and separate from Oracle’s other cloud regions, provides the same service level agreements and prices as Oracle’s commercial cloud regions, the company claimed. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) manages the service, which is entirely supported by EU-based personnel, and operates under separate legal entities incorporated within the EU.

Designed for businesses operating in heavily regulated industries, the new service caters to customers handling sensitive, regulated data or data of strategic regional importance. The company said that it is particularly useful for workloads that must adhere to EU guidelines and requirements for data privacy, such as the General Regulation ().

In addition, the EU Sovereign Cloud is expected to host Oracle’s Fusion Cloud Applications Suite soon. It is also designed to support organisations in leveraging new artificial intelligence techniques, including generative AI, within the constraints of EU data residency and sovereignty requirements.

The cloud region operates under a comprehensive set of policies and governance to augment OCI’s existing capabilities for data residency, security, privacy, and compliance. With data centers in Frankfurt, , and Madrid, Spain, the EU Sovereign Cloud operates entirely within the EU, maintaining strict separation from Oracle’s commercial cloud regions, said the company.

Oracle has also unveiled two new key management services, OCI Dedicated Key Management Service and OCI External Key Management Service, available across all Oracle Cloud Regions, including the EU Sovereign Cloud. These services aim to further secure customer data and help meet data sovereignty requirements.
