NEW DELHI – Union government has launched an upgraded logistics tracking platform aimed at improving supply chain efficiency and boosting the India’s digital trade and export competitiveness.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal unveiled the Logistics Data Bank (LDB) 2.0 on Saturday in New Delhi during events marking 10 years of the government’s “Make in India” initiative.
The system, developed by NICDC Logistics Data Services (NLDSL), expands the scope of the existing platform by offering real-time tracking of containers at sea and multi-modal shipment visibility, said a statement.
According to the ministry, LDB 2.0 is designed to provide industry and government with detailed insights into logistics infrastructure and performance. Officials said the platform will support planning, reduce inefficiencies and help lower costs across the sector.
The new version introduces high-seas container tracking, which enables exporters to monitor shipments after they leave Indian ports and cross international waters. It also integrates with the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) to allow tracking by container, truck or trailer numbers, as well as railway freight numbers.
A live heatmap showing container distribution across the country has been included in the system. The government said this feature would help policymakers and businesses identify imbalances and respond to potential bottlenecks more quickly.
Goyal said LDB 2.0 would act as a tool to strengthen India’s position in global supply chains, improve coordination in trade and support micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
“This initiative will accelerate India’s journey toward Atmanirbhar Bharat by empowering exporters and manufacturers with real-time data and smarter infrastructure,” he said.
The government said the platform is part of its wider push to create a data-driven logistics ecosystem aligned with the long-term vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, which seeks to position India as a globally competitive economy.
