On the occasion of National Youth Day, commemorating the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored India’s advancements in technology, the transformative impact of Digital India, and the critical role of skill development during his address at the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
Speaking to a gathering of 3,000 young leaders from across the nation, the Prime Minister emphasised how these domains are shaping India’s future, driven by the energy and innovation of its youth. “The power of youth is awakening a new confidence in India. If Swami Vivekananda were with us today, he would see the immense potential of the 21st-century youth,” PM Modi remarked, setting the tone for the dialogue.
The Prime Minister highlighted the unprecedented strides India has made in the digital and technology sectors, describing them as the bedrock of a developed nation. He pointed out that India has achieved the fastest rollout of 5G technology globally, calling it a transformative step. “With the swift deployment of 5G, we are not just improving connectivity; we are opening doors to new opportunities in education, healthcare, and governance,” he said.
Emphasising the significance of digital inclusion, PM Modi added, “The reach of broadband internet to thousands of gram panchayats is bridging the digital divide, empowering rural India, and fostering inclusive growth.”
Reflecting on the global recognition of Digital India, the Prime Minister called it “not just a technological movement, but a societal transformation.” He noted, “Digital India is enhancing efficiency and empowering millions by giving them access to services and opportunities that were once out of reach.”
In his address, PM Modi also spoke about India’s leadership in space technology, praising the successes of Chandrayaan and the preparations for Gaganyaan, India’s first human spaceflight mission. “Our scientists have shown the world what India can achieve. From landing on the moon to preparing for a space station by 2035, our ambitions are inspiring the next generation to dream big,” he said.
He stressed that these advancements elevate India’s status as a global technology leader and “serve as a beacon of innovation for our youth.”
Skill development formed a central theme of the Prime Minister’s speech, as he highlighted the expansion of educational and vocational infrastructure across the nation. “Over the past decade, we have established 23 IITs, increased IIITs from 9 to 25, and raised IIMs from 13 to 21. The number of AIIMS has tripled, and medical colleges have nearly doubled. This is the foundation for creating a skilled and capable workforce for the future,” he stated.
He further emphasised the rapid pace of development, noting, “Every week, we are establishing a new university; every day, a new ITI; and every third day, an Atal Tinkering Lab. These efforts are equipping our youth with skills that make them globally competitive.”
PM Modi highlighted the government’s commitment to empowering entrepreneurs through initiatives like the Mudra loan scheme, which has disbursed 23 lakh crore rupees in collateral-free loans. “Through Mudra loans, we are enabling our youth to start their ventures, contribute to the economy, and create jobs,” he said.
He also pointed out how the integration of technology in governance, such as Ayushman Bharat, has delivered tangible benefits. “Ayushman Bharat is not just the world’s largest healthcare program; it is a technological marvel that ensures healthcare reaches those who need it the most,” he noted.
The Prime Minister also spoke about India’s leadership in renewable energy and sustainability, highlighting the nation’s progress in achieving its environmental goals. “We are on track to meet our Paris Agreement commitments nine years ahead of schedule, and the target of 20% ethanol blending will be achieved well before 2030,” he said. PM Modi linked these achievements to the broader narrative of technological innovation and the role of youth in driving these changes.
Touching upon infrastructure development, the Prime Minister illustrated how technology is reshaping India’s physical and digital landscapes. “Our infrastructure spending has increased sixfold to over 11 lakh crore rupees. This has doubled the number of airports, brought Vande Bharat trains into service, and initiated the bullet train project,” he explained. He also highlighted the connectivity improvements, adding, “Today, roads connect over 300,000 villages, ensuring rural India benefits from modern infrastructure.”
PM Modi reiterated his faith in the power of youth, technology, and skill development to propel India toward its vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047. “The youth of India will drive the greatest transformation in our history. Their courage, innovation, and dedication will make India a global leader in technology and economic progress,” he said.
Urging the youth to take risks and embrace the spirit of innovation, the Prime Minister reaffirmed, “This is India’s moment for a quantum leap, and I have complete faith in our young leaders to make the impossible possible.”
