Veeam Software has announced the release of Veeam Data Platform v12.2, an update aimed at improving data protection and cybersecurity capabilities across a broader range of platforms.
This version extends support to additional infrastructures, giving organisations more flexibility in protecting critical data, particularly in the context of increasingly complex hybrid cloud environments.
According to Veeam, the Veeam Data Platform v12.2 integrates advanced data backup, recovery, and security features, enabling organisations not only to protect their data but also to recover it swiftly in the event of a cyberattack or system failure.
These enhancements are intended to address the growing challenges faced by organisations today, including the need to secure data against evolving cyber threats, facilitate seamless migration to new platforms, and ensure that data remains accessible when required, including for AI-driven applications.
“In a digital world, organisations face three critical challenges: they must protect their data and be able to rapidly recover it no matter what happens; they need the freedom to move to new platforms; and their data must be available where it’s needed, including AI,” stated Veeam CEO Anand Eswaran.
A notable feature of this release is the expanded support for various platforms, such as enhanced integration with Nutanix Prism Central, which offers enterprise-level protection.
The platform now also includes support for the Proxmox VE hypervisor, enabling agentless backups and flexible recovery options, which is particularly advantageous for organisations seeking to modernise their IT infrastructure without being confined to a single platform.
Furthermore, the inclusion of MongoDB backup, with capabilities such as immutable backups and centralised management, enhances the platform’s cyber resilience.
The update also aims to facilitate cloud transformation, supporting services such as Amazon FSx, Amazon RedShift, Azure Cosmos DB, and Azure Data Lake Storage. These integrations are designed to simplify data migration and ensure secure, compliant data management across multi-cloud environments, which are becoming increasingly common as organisations strive for greater flexibility and cost-efficiency.
In terms of security enhancements, Veeam Data Platform v12.2 offers improved management of YARA rules, a key tool for malware detection. The platform now includes comprehensive role-based access control (RBAC), secure distribution, and orchestrated scanning of backups, all of which contribute to timely issue detection and compliance assurance. Additionally, new health-check alarms assist organisations in identifying and addressing data integrity violations, streamlining the process of maintaining secure and compliant operations.
The updates in Veeam Data Platform v12.2 reflect a broader industry trend towards more integrated and resilient data protection solutions. Krista Case, a research director at The Futurum Group, highlighted that these advancements are crucial as IT and security teams increasingly seek solutions that not only enhance their ability to recover quickly from cyberattacks but also strengthen their overall security posture.
The addition of Proxmox VE support has been particularly well-received, offering organisations greater flexibility and cost-effectiveness without compromising the reliability of their data protection strategies.
