To support government fight with COVID-19, the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), under Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) said that its all employees will donate their one-day salary to PM Cares Fund.
The firm has around 980 employees across India who are voluntarily donating their one -day salary in their bit to fight against the deadly coronavirus. As of now, STPI said it has collected 15.48 lakh as a contribution by all its employees.
In addition, the organisation has urged all the IT/ITes players across the country, not to terminate their employees, including casual and outsourced staff, and ensure that they are treated ‘on duty’ during their period of absence to enable timely disbursal of wages to them at this critical moment. “It also called on the companies to undertake social and community welfare measures and augment the efforts of the government in tackling the crisis,” the organisation said.
“Indian IT industry has brought many laurels to the nation and today it stands resilient to COVID-19 crisis by ensuring business continuity to clients. We at STPI are committed to extend our support to the nation to fight this pandemic. Each and every employee of STPI will donate one day salary to the Prime Minister`s National Relief Fund” said STPI DG Omkar Rai said.
“I urge the IT/ITes fraternity to come forward and support government and society at large by doing their bits. Together in the collaboration with the state and the central government we will not only fight this war effectively but eventually we will win as well,” he added.
STPI is an autonomous society set up by the MeitY with the objective of encouraging, promoting and boosting the software exports from India. It offers a wide range of services to Indian IT industry including but not limited to Statutory, Datacom and Incubation services.
The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has affected over 900 people in India forcing the government to declare a nationwide lockdown for 21 days starting from 24th March 2020 onwards. To tide over the economic crisis, the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman bailed out an economic package worth Rs 1,70,000 crore to cover the marginalized section of the society.
The package includes a mix of food security and direct cash transfer benefits, which will shield daily wagers and small businesses during the lockdown in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Reserve Bank of India has also announced a spate of measures to keep the Indian economy afloat amidst the lockdown.
