In a major overhaul of the senior leadership and its business strategy, Swedish mobile telecom gear maker Ericsson has announced the departure of senior executives from executive leadership team. Per Borgklint, Anders Lindblad, Jean-Philippe Poirault and Charlotta Sund who are part of Ericsson’s executive leadership team and heading the key sectors will leave the Executive Leadership Team on April 1, 2017.
Outgoing executives, Per Borgklint has been heading media unit, Anders Lindblad is head of IT & Cloud products unit, Jean-Philippe Poirault has been heading IT & Cloud services and Charlotta Sund is head of customer group industry & society.
Company in a statement said, it is removing the two-tiered leadership structure – executive leadership team and global leadership team – with a single executive team. In addition, the current ten market geographical setup will become five market area comprising North America, Europe & Latin America, Middle East & Africa, North East Asia, South East Asia, Oceania & India.
Also, company has redefined the business areas and reduced it to three – business area networks, business area digital services, business area managed services.
The new executive team roles and the new organisation will take effect April 1, 2017, said Ericsson in a statement.
“To execute quickly and successfully on the next phase of our strategy, a new leadership team will immediately start working together. We will use the near future to solidify ways of working for the new structure, which will be more efficient and responsive to market and customer needs,” said Ericsson president and CEO Börje Ekholm.
In Ericsson, the board of directors appoints the president and CEO and the executive vice presidents. The president and CEO is responsible for the management of day-to-day operations and is supported by the executive leadership team (ELT).
The global leadership team (GLT) consists of all members of the executive leadership team (ELT), the chief intellectual property officer and the heads of regions. The GLT regularly meet and its role is among other things to have a global view on Ericsson’s performance and strategy.
Post April 1, 2017, Börje Ekholm will continue as president and CEO, while Fredrik Jejdling, who is senior vice president (SVP) and currently head of business unit network services will lead the business area networks. The responsibility to head business area managed services has been given to Peter Laurin, who is currently heading the region Northern Europe and Central Asia as SVP. Ulf Ewaldsson, SVP, currently head of group function strategy & technology will lead business area digital services.
Market area such as North America will be headed by Rima Qureshi, who is currently head of region North America. Arun Bansal, SVP, currently head of business unit network products will head Europe & Latin America.
Middle East & Africa will be headed by Rafiah Ibrahim, who is currently head of Middle East. Chris Houghton, SVP, currently head of Region North East Asia will head newly formed market area North East Asia.
South East Asia, Oceania & India will be headed by Nunzio Mirtillo, SVP, currently and head of region Mediterranean. Niklas Heuveldop, SVP, currently head of group function sales will head technology & emerging business.
Finance & Common Functions will be headed by Carl Mellander, currently acting head of group function finance & common functions. MajBritt Arfert, SVP, currently acting head of group function human resources will head the HR.
Helena Norrman will continue to head marketing & communications. Elaine Weidman Grunewald will continue to take care of sustainability & corporate responsibility. Nina Macpherson will continue to head legal affairs.
Jan Frykhammar and Magnus Mandersson, both executive vice president will continue to be advisor to the CEO.
