Wipro has launched a new industrial maintenance solution developed jointly with Saudi Aramco and to help oil and gas, mining, chemicals, and utilities companies manage complex shutdown and turnaround operations.

The solution, called Wipro STO360, addresses shutdown, turnaround and outage (STO) management, a critical but operationally challenging function for asset-intensive industries. STO refers to planned maintenance periods during which industrial facilities temporarily halt production to conduct inspections, repairs and equipment upgrades. These operations can cost millions of rupees daily in lost output if not managed efficiently.

Aramco partnership

“Asset heavy industries need to embrace AI-led transformation quickly and at scale due to the increasing complexity, regulatory expectations, and the need for operational excellence,” said Vinay Firake, chief executive officer for Asia Pacific, India, Middle East and Africa, Wipro.

Firake said the solution combines Wipro’s industry expertise with cloud-native capabilities to help enterprises optimise STO operations.

Ahmad O Al Khowaiter, executive vice president of technology and innovation, Aramco, said the company aims to transform its business operations using the new solution. “Leveraging cutting-edge technology, we aim to set new benchmarks in operational excellence to continue our strong position in the industry,” Al Khowaiter said.

He added that the initiative supports Aramco in optimising turnaround and inspection planning and execution phases by increasing process efficiency and productivity.

SAP integration

The solution has received SAP Endorsed App status and is available on the SAP Store, SAP’s digital marketplace for enterprise applications.

“Ecosystem innovations are essential to SAP’s vision and delivery of the Autonomous Enterprise for our customers,” said Darryl Gray, global senior vice president of independent software vendor partner management, SAP. “Partners like Wipro help us deliver a business AI, cloud-first strategy with clean-core-compliant innovations that are proven to provide value while solving key business challenges.”

SAP BTP provides enterprise-grade security, portability, extensibility and scalability, serving as a foundation for future innovation across industrial applications.

For asset-intensive industries, efficient STO management directly affects operational continuity and profitability. Unplanned delays during shutdown periods can cascade into production losses, regulatory non-compliance and safety risks. The solution aims to address these challenges through a centralised platform that integrates planning, execution and monitoring functions.

The oil and gas sector, in particular, faces increasing pressure to optimise maintenance operations as ageing infrastructure and stricter environmental regulations demand more frequent and comprehensive turnaround cycles. Mining and manufacturing companies face similar challenges as they balance production targets with equipment reliability and worker safety requirements.

Wipro STO360 uses a cloud-native architecture designed to enhance asset reliability, improve operational efficiency, strengthen compliance and reduce risk across maintenance programmes, the company said.
