Amazon mulling to explore cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin as payment method

Amazon may soon enable consumers to pay using cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, as the e-commerce giant is on the lookout for a digital currency and blockchain product lead for its payments team.

Amazon may soon enable consumers to pay using cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, as the e-commerce giant is on the lookout for a digital currency and blockchain product lead for its payments team.

According to a recent posting, Amazon’s Payments Acceptance & Experience team is “looking for an experienced product leader to help create Amazon’s strategy and product roadmap for digital currency and blockchain.”

“You will use your domain knowledge in Blockchain, Distributed Ledger, Central Bank Digital Currencies, and Cryptocurrency to make the case for new capabilities, drive the overall vision and product strategy, and get leadership buy-in and funding for new capabilities,” the business stated.

The product lead will collaborate closely with teams throughout Amazon, including AWS, to create a roadmap for the customer experience, technological strategy and capabilities, and launch strategy.

Amazon does not yet accept cryptocurrency as payment. According to a business spokesman, it was “inspired by the innovation taking place in the cryptocurrency and is researching how this may appear on Amazon.”

AWS, Amazon’s cloud computing division, presently offers a managed blockchain solution. The business added that the new digital currency and blockchain product lead would “need to operate with a high degree of autonomy and analytically, working backwards from and consumer insights to develop new and inventive solutions to unresolved challenges.”

Apple, the technology giant, advertised a similar position in May for a business development manager “working in or with alternative payment providers, such as digital wallets, BNPL, Fast Payments, and cryptocurrencies.”

and Twitter are both optimistic about Bitcoin as a potential payment option of the future. The internet world requires a global currency, and we are concentrating our efforts on Bitcoin since it enables us to reach every single individual on the planet, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has stated.

Meanwhile, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that the business will “very likely” begin accepting Bitcoin payments following a review of the energy mix used to generate the cryptocurrency.
