New Delhi — CtrlS Datacenters said it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with NTPC Green Energy, a subsidiary of NTPC, to jointly develop renewable energy projects of up to 2 gigawatts for supplying green power to its datacentres.
The agreement was signed between CtrlS Founder and CEO Sridhar Pinnapureddy and NGEL CEO Sarit Maheshwari. The companies said the partnership would explore opportunities to set up grid-connected renewable energy projects through greenfield development or acquisitions.
The MoU, which will be valid for two years with a possible extension, aims to support CtrlS’s plan to use renewable power for captive consumption at its facilities across India.
“This MoU marks a step in our journey toward sustainable digital operations. Partnering with NGEL enables us to power our datacentres with renewable energy and advance our commitment to net-zero operations,” Pinnapureddy said.
Maheshwari said NGEL was committed to developing reliable green power and saw the partnership as a step toward building low-carbon digital infrastructure as datacentre demand grows.
CtrlS operates 16 datacentres across nine Indian cities and plans to expand into overseas markets, including Thailand. NGEL has an operational renewable energy capacity of 8.9 gigawatts and another 13 gigawatts under implementation, with a goal of reaching 60 gigawatts by 2032.
