Mumbai University results: The lakh of Mumbai University (MU) graduate students fate are uncertain for post-graduation admission as the MU has failed to announce the results for degree colleges, law and other courses and there is no clarity as to when the results will be announced. Today, along with aggrieved students, Bombay University and College Teachers’ Union (BUCTU) protested in Mumbai against university’s failure in assessing answer papers and declaring results on time.
The students demanded that Mumbai University should announce the results as soon as possible as many of the students who are seeking admission in post-graduation in India and abroad are on the edge of losing their chances due to non-availability of their mark-sheet. One of the such students is Payu Tiwari, a 22-year-old BA (Psychology) student from Jai Hind College, Churchgate. She has secured admission in Master in Journalism at university of Dublin and had paid one Rs 1 lakh for the Dublin course. She will lose admission if she failed to produce her graduation mark sheet within a week.
She told news daily Asian Age that she got special concession from the Irish Embassy, as they are aware about the happenings of MU. Technically, the admission dates have already passed but the embassy made an exception for Payu and extended the dates for her. “I have been given one more week time, but the way things are going, I don’t really think the results would be out even by the end of August,” Asian Age quoted Payu who is annoyed as she feels like she is going to lose the Rs 1 lakh because of MU’s glitch.
When asked about such cases, Mumbai University Registrar M. A. Khan said that such students can get a letter from MU which can be submitted to their respective university abroad. Students can continue with their admission procedure and later submit their mark sheet once it is issued by university.
Earlier, taking the serious note on the delays in the declaration of the results by the University of Mumbai, the Governor of Maharashtra CH Vidyasagar Rao asked the university administration to declare results of all courses by 31st July 2017. The Governor asked Vice-Chancellor of the University Dr Sanjay Deshmukh to declare all courses’ result by 31st July 2017 and to submit a detailed report in accordance with the provisions of Section 89 of Maharashtra Public Universities Act, explaining the strategy and road map for a declaration of results on time.
Now, two weeks after the governor rapped the Mumbai University for delay in exam assessments, work on correction of answer sheets has picked up some speed. According to figures revealed by MU officials, close to 50% of the answer sheets have been evaluated and the university hopes to announce results of some courses within the next few days, reported HT.
