SHENZHEN brand Oppo will launch ColorOS 16, the latest version of its mobile operating system, with its upcoming Find X9 smartphones, adding new AI features and improved cross-device connectivity, the company said.

The update introduces a redesigned interface, faster animations and tighter integration with and Mac computers. It also includes new tools for photo and editing, part of Oppo’s push to position ColorOS as a platform that extends beyond phones.

ColorOS 16 uses a new Luminous Rendering Engine and Trinity Engine to make animations smoother and manage power use during heavy tasks such as gaming and multitasking. The company said the system aims to keep entry-level phones responsive through an optimisation programme called Project Breeze.

The refresh also includes interface changes, allowing users to set motion photos as wallpapers and resize app icons through a feature called Flux Home Screen. A full-screen Always-On Display lets users see lock screen wallpapers and key notifications at a glance.

Oppo pushes AI-driven photo and video tools

Oppo is expanding its suite of AI editing tools with a new feature called AI Portrait Glow, which adjusts lighting and skin tone in low-light photos. The update also refines existing tools such as AI Eraser and AI Unblur, and adds a video editor, Master Cut, with basic trimming, filters and text options.

These additions come as smartphone makers increase investment in on-device AI features to simplify creative and productivity tasks.

ColorOS 16 improves integration between Oppo phones and computers. The O+ Connect feature now supports both Mac and Windows PCs, enabling users to transfer files or control their computers remotely.

A new screen mirroring tool lets users project up to five apps from their phone and interact with them using a keyboard and mouse — a feature aimed at multitasking or presentation use.

Oppo ColorOS 16 rollout and availability

ColorOS 16 will first appear on the Find X9 series before expanding to other Oppo devices. The company did not give a release date but said the update will be rolled out globally.

The launch comes as smartphone makers focus on improving software experiences through AI integration and tighter ecosystem connections to retain users in competitive markets.
