WhatsApp is rolling out an updated interface for its application, according to multiple reports. This update modifies some of the app's visual elements, most notably changing the traditional green top bar to white within the main chat list and individual chat sessions. This new design adheres to Google's Material Design 3 guidelines and refines the app's dark mode appearance. Additionally, ‘outline' icons have been introduced for different functions in the app as part of this beta version.

Another visual adjustment in this update is the change in the shade of the green accent present in various parts of the app, for both the light and dark themes. This results in a slightly brighter hue for components such as the floating action button, particularly when dark mode is enabled.

Also, solid icons representing voice and video calls inside chats and the camera icon on the main chat list have been replaced. Instead, the app now features outline versions of these icons. This specific update to the icons was first observed in a previous version of WhatsApp's beta for Android.

Additionally, WhatsApp is also making design modifications for its application. Recent observations from a beta version of the app for iOS revealed changes in the colour palette and the introduction of the aforementioned outline icons. It is noteworthy that the stable version of the WhatsApp application for iOS currently doesn't have a green top bar, which is a feature found in its Android counterpart.

In the near future, aside from the design overhaul, there is an expectation for both Android and iOS platforms to receive new chat filter options such as All, Unread, Contacts, and Groups. These filters aim to enhance chat management for users. The combination of these new filters and the updated design is anticipated to be available to the general user base in upcoming releases.
