The country's educational institutions have been closed since March 17 last year. But even though the educational institutions are shut, the government has taken various steps to ensure learning continuity for the students.

To address this new challenge, the digital education system has come in quite handy. The government has been working hard to restore normalcy since the beginning of the epidemic. For the first time in the country, the government has introduced a digital education system.

Implementing the idea of providing conventional education through the internet at first was challenging. Through which students of all ages can learn lessons in class from any part of the country through mobiles and laptops.

Shaon Das (16), a physically challenged examinee of a government Khulna district school, is happy to continue studying digitally even in the midst of this corona epidemic (Covid-19).

Expressing frustration over the closure of the school and college, Shaon said, “My parents are very worried about the closure of the school last year due to the coronavirus.”

“But with the help of laptops and mobile phones provided by the Khulna deputy commissioner last year, I am now able to continue my studies through various digital apps,” he said.

Shanti Ranjan Das, a retired officer of Agrani Bank, father of Shaon, a resident of Bagmara area of the city, said, “We are happy that my son is able to continue his online classes using digital education using mobile phone and various education-related apps.”

More than five lakh students from primary, secondary, madrasa, higher secondary universities, medical, and various institutions in the area like Shaon Das are benefiting from the newly launched digital education.

District Education Officer Ruhul Amin told that more than 1 lakh 65 thousand madrasas and school students from 555 schools are practically studying using ICT.

Seven thousand teachers are taking classes online through the Zoom app. Due to the coronavirus epidemic, at least 80 percent of teachers have been trained in virtual lessons since last year, he added.

District Primary Education Officer Mamun Alim told, “More than 600 classes have been uploaded on the YouTube channel, where students can take their required online lessons.”

‘Elementary teachers have been taking cluster-based classes since last month after successfully completing training from Google'. Students can also take lessons from the Parliament television channel and FM band radio.'

He added, “Teachers can take regular classes for primary students through the internet. They are also following the annual syllabus adopted by the National Primary Education Academy.”

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ICT and Education) Md Sadequr Rahman told about the virtual class, a total of 1 lakh 63 thousand 71 students in the district are participating in online classes.

Noting that at least 6,399 teachers are giving online lessons using various online platforms, he added that students are enjoying the benefits of digitalization as the country's educational institutions are closed due to the Covid epidemic.

Khulna Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Md. Helal Hossain told that 80% of students from primary to university level in Khulna are getting digital education through the Zoom app, Facebook, and YouTube channel.

He said, “Digital Secondary School, Sundarbans Online School, Khulna Online School, My House My School of Sangsad Television, Kishore Batayan Online School of ATUI and several YouTube channels and websites in Khulna are being used for teaching.”

He said the government has provided various ICT-based equipment including laptops and mobile phones for disadvantaged and indigent students. So that they can enjoy the benefits of digitization like other economically well-off students.
