Kochi – Underwater robotics startup EyeROV said on Tuesday it had secured a ₹47 crore contract from the Indian Navy to supply advanced Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (UWROVs).
The company said the deal would strengthen the Navy’s capability with indigenously developed technology. EyeROV’s UWROVs have been tested in extreme conditions, including turbulent deep seas and the Antarctic, the company added.
The EyeROV TROUT model, rated for depths of 300 metres, is designed for both defence and commercial applications. According to EyeROV, it can carry advanced payloads for missions such as underwater surveillance and reconnaissance.
Johns T. Mathai, co-founder and CEO of EyeROV, said the contract recognised the company’s eight years of work in developing indigenous solutions for complex underwater operations. “Our vision has always been to serve the nation by delivering technologies that are at par with global standards,” he added.
Kannappa P., co-founder and CTO, said the Navy partnership demonstrated that Indian innovation could compete internationally in defence deep-tech.
Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Kochi, EyeROV has carried out over 100 deployments in India, West Asia, APAC and Europe, the company said.
Its clients include the Defence Research and Development Organisation, the Indian Coast Guard, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research.
The company’s products include Remotely Operated Vehicles EyeROV TUNA and TROUT, and the Unmanned Surface Vessel iBoat Alpha. EyeROV said its systems were fully developed in India, supporting the country’s push for self-reliance in defence technology.
