NHAI chairman Sukhbir Singh Sandhu gets second extension of six months

() chairman has received a six months extension in his central deputation. He was due to end his second extension term on January 21 next year.

“Sukhbir Singh Sandhu has been given a six months extension as the chairman of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI),” a Personnel Ministry order issued on Thursday said.

Sandhu, a 1988-batch officer from Uttarakhand cadre took over as NHAI chief in 2019 replacing senior IAS officer Nagendra Nath Sinha who was elevated as the Secretary, Department of Border Management.

“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension in central deputation tenure of Sandhu, chairman, NHAI, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, for a period of six months beyond January 21, 2021, i.e. up to July 21, 2021,” said a government order.

This is a second six months extension for Sandhu. He had received first extension of six months till January 21, 2021 in July 2019. In a order, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet in July had approved his extension in central deputation tenure for a period of six months up to January 21, 2021.

Before joining NHAI, Sandhu has also served as additional secretary, department of higher education, ministry of Human Resource Development. He has done his MBBS from Government Medical College, Amritsar and Master's Degree in History from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and he is also a law graduate.

STMicro quarterly profit declines by 18.4% owing to slow demand
