GURUGRAM – Samsung is preparing to launch the Galaxy M17 5G in India on October 10, following reports that its predecessor, the Galaxy M16 5G, has sold out in local markets.
The company has described the device as incorporating a 50 MP triple camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS), intended to reduce motion blur and support steadier video recording even in low light.
Samsung says the Galaxy M17 5G will include Gorilla Glass Victus protection and an IP54 rating for dust and splash resistance, combining sturdiness with a 7.5 mm slim profile. The phone is expected to feature a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display for improved visual performance.

While official hardware specifications such as battery and pricing remain undisclosed, leaks suggest the Galaxy M17 5G may include an Exynos 1330 chipset running Android 15, with multiple RAM options. A recent benchmark listing points to these configurations.
The launch comes as Samsung faces a shifting Indian smartphone market. Though it retains a strong presence, the company has seen pressure from other brands.
Galaxy M17 5G to strengthen Samsung’s foothold in mid-range segment
In 2024, India’s overall smartphone shipments rose by 4% to about 151 million units. Samsung’s share, meanwhile, declined from 17% to around 13.2% over 2023-24.
The Galaxy M17 5G aims to strengthen Samsung‘s foothold in the mid-range 5G segment, where consumers expect a balance of camera, durability and smart features. The inclusion of AI tools and advanced camera hardware could help differentiate it in a crowded market.
Given the strong demand for 5G devices in India, success of this model may influence Samsung’s strategy for its next line of M-series smartphones.
