Pre-orders are expected to open shortly after the announcement, with general availability following in late September or early October. The company has not disclosed regional rollout plans, but previous launches suggest a simultaneous release in major markets including the US, UK and India.

Performance and Chipset Details

The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will use the A18 chip, the same processor found in the iPhone 16 series. This suggests Apple will reserve performance improvements for the Pro models, which may feature an enhanced A18 Pro or a next-generation chipset.

The A18 chip is built on a 3nm manufacturing process, offering improved efficiency over its predecessor. Benchmarks from early testing indicate a 10-12% increase in multi-core performance compared to the A17 Pro. Thermal management has also been optimised, according to supply chain reports.

Camera Upgrades and Imaging Features

All iPhone 17 models will include a 24-megapixel front-facing camera, doubling the resolution of the iPhone 16’s 12-megapixel sensor. This upgrade is expected to improve detail retention in selfies and calls.

The rear camera system will see incremental improvements, with the Pro models rumoured to feature a periscope zoom lens for enhanced optical zoom capabilities. Sensor-shift stabilisation, currently exclusive to the Pro lineup, may extend to the standard iPhone 17.

Design and Aesthetic Changes

The base iPhone 17 will retain a design similar to the iPhone 16, according to leaked schematics. The iPhone 17 Air and Pro models will undergo more noticeable revisions, including thinner bezels and a redesigned rear camera module.

Apple is also testing new colour options, with industry insiders suggesting a matte-finish titanium frame for the Pro variants. The standard model will likely retain an aluminium chassis.

Pricing and India Availability

Pricing for the iPhone 17 series in India is expected to follow Apple’s existing structure:

  • iPhone 17: Rs 89,900

  • iPhone 17 Air: Rs 99,900

  • iPhone 17 Pro: Rs 1,39,900

  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: Rs 1,64,900

These figures are based on preliminary retail estimates and may change before launch. The iPhone 17 Air’s positioning between the standard and Pro models suggests Apple is consolidating its mid-range offerings.

Related Product Launches

Apple is also preparing to release new Macs and iPads featuring the M5 chip later in 2025. The MacBook Pro will be the first device to incorporate the M5 silicon, available in Pro and Max configurations. The MacBook Air with the M5 chip is expected in 2026.

The iPad Pro lineup will receive the M5 chip alongside Apple’s in-house C1 modem, improving cellular connectivity. The high-end Mac Pro may launch with the M3 Ultra processor, targeting professional users requiring extreme performance.

These developments indicate Apple’s continued focus on vertical integration, with custom silicon playing a central role across its product ecosystem.
