Lenskart to open smartglasses platform to software developers

Lenskart will allow software developers to build applications for its upcoming smartglasses platform ahead of launch.

Preferred Source of Google

Lenskart said on Thursday it will open its upcoming product, B by Lenskart, to software developers in India ahead of the device’s commercial launch. The initiative will allow consumer applications and independent developers to build features that work directly with the glasses.

The company said the plan is aimed at creating a software ecosystem around the product rather than positioning the glasses only as consumer hardware. The integrations are intended for use cases in areas such as food delivery, fitness, entertainment and everyday task support.

B by Lenskart is expected to launch by the end of December 2025. The device has an integrated camera and on-device artificial intelligence capabilities. Lenskart said the smartglasses weigh about 40 grams and are being developed and assembled in India.

Lenskart banks on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chip

The smartglasses use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chip, a processor designed for and wearable devices. The product includes a Sony camera for hands-free image and capture. It also features an AI assistant based on Google’s Gemini 2.5 Live that supports real-time translation, voice interaction and payment initiation.

Lenskart said it intends to develop the product as part of a broader platform that connects hardware development, software tools and retail distribution. The company operates stores in cities across India and also sells eyewear online. Its network will be used for demonstrations and after-sales support for the smartglasses once available.

The company said it has also invested in extended reality and artificial intelligence-focused firms including Ajna Lens, consistent with its plan to build in-house capability in both hardware and software.

Industry estimates suggest the global smartglasses market could reach between $4 billion and $5 billion by 2030 with projected annual growth of about 30 percent. Analysts expect India to be a key growth market due to increased adoption of wearable technology and wider availability of consumer payment and connectivity infrastructure.

Lenskart has not yet announced the retail price for the smartglasses. The company said further details will be shared closer to launch.
