Eyewear e-commerce co Lenskart eyes global expansion, to hire over 2,000 people across functions by 2022

Around 1,500 people will be hired to manage retail stores, while more than 100 engineers will be brought on board for its technology teams in Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, and Hyderabad

Leading portal for eyewear in India with an also offline presence, Lenskart in a major expansion bid plans to hire more than 2,000 people by next year as the omnichannel eyewear retailer eyes Indian as well as top global markets.

According to the company, around 1,500 people will be hired to manage retail stores, while more than 100 engineers will be brought on board for its technology teams in , Delhi NCR, and Hyderabad.

The SoftBank-backed company will also hire around 300 people for its supply chain and manufacturing operations, along with 100 others incorporate functions such as , consumer insights, human resources, and merchandising.

This comes following a successful $315 million round from investors including Temasek Holdings, Falcon Edge Capital and KKR & Co. Started in 2010. Lenskart is now reported to be valued as a $2.5 billion entity.

Meanwhile, the company also plans to hire around 300 people in overseas markets like Singapore, Middle East, and the USA. Lenskart co-founder and CEO Peyush Bansal recently indicated that the startup was looking at significant expansion in SouthEast Asia and the Middle East.

Apart from global expansion, the company plans to open 300 new stores in India which will take the total store count to more than 1,000. Bansal said in a statement on Wednesday that it wants to grow ‘exponentially’ in its international markets as well as in India through online commerce and retail stores.

“This has opened up several job opportunities across Lenskart to serve and delight our customers at a huge scale. So, hiring is a key aspect in our growth journey and we are looking at actively hiring skilled talent across verticals for regions like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi among others,” Bansal said.
