Zomato names Akriti Chopra as co-founder ahead of $1.1 billion IPO

Chopra, a known name in the company, has been associated with the platforms since 2011, when she started as a senior manager of finance and operations

Ahead of its crucial $1.1-billion initial public offering (IPO), the Zomato management has announced to elevate top company executive Akriti Chopra as company co-founder. Chopra, a known name in the company, has been associated with the platforms since 2011 when she started as a senior manager of and operations.

She later became the , a role which was taken over by Akshant Goyal in 2019. She has also been appointed by the head of people development.

“Tuki (Akriti, I know this doesn’t mean much to you, because you have always been a founder at Zomato. Sometimes more than me, but never less than me. Thank you. Congratulations for now officially being a founder at Zomato,” Goyal wrote in the .

Started in 2008 by Deepinder Goyal, Pankaj Chaddah, and Gunjan Patidar, Zomato at present has four co-founders — Deepinder Goyal, Gunjan Patidar, Gaurav Gupta, and Mohit Gupta. Chopra now joins this bunch. Chaddah left the company in 2018.

Chopra, who was previously with PwC, joined Zomato in November 2011, initially as part of its finance team where she established and scaled business finance functions across all its verticals.

A Lady Shri Ram College graduate, Chopra is also a qualified chartered accountant. According to top company sources, Chopra has also been instrumental in facilitating Zomato’s multiple funding rounds and acquisitions as well as setting up its international presence.
