Japanese and gaming major Sony has launched ‘PlayStation Studios Mobile’. The move is seen as the company’s efforts to introduce more people to the PlayStation platform and gain a firmer foothold in the gaming industry.

As per Sony PlayStation blog post the new PlayStation Studios Mobile “will operate independently from our console development and focus on innovative, on-the-go experiences based on new and existing PlayStation IP”.

Sony has also acquired Savage Studios, Germany-based video development company. While Savage Games Studios has not released any of their games yet, Michail Katkoff, Nadjim Adjir and Michael Mc Manus–the cofounders of the company– have had some experience working on mobile game franchises like Angry Birds and Clash of Clans. The video game studio is currently working on a “new unannounced triple-A mobile live service action game.”

On why Savage Games Studios agreed to partner with Sony, Michail Katkoff, CEO and co-founder of Savage Game Studios, said in a press statement: “We believe that PlayStation Studios’ leadership respects our vision for how we can best operate and succeed, and because they too are not afraid to take chances. All of that, plus the ability to potentially tap into PlayStation’s amazing catalog of IP and the fact that we will benefit from the kind of support that only they can provide.”

Sony’s push into mobile gaming could   be seen as another measure it has taken in response to Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard and the Xbox Cloud Gaming, after it acquired Bungie for $3.6 billion.

Though Microsoft recently admitted in a court document submitted with ‘s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) that the PS4 sold more than twice as many Xbox One units, Sony has set its sights on the future and PlayStation Studios Mobile is one such attempt which is meant to secure it.
