Carrie, a company primarily known for its heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration products has open a new technology development centre at its facility. The new centre will function as a laboratory and testing facilities to aid in the development of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) products. Carrier is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of UniteTechnologies Corp.

Carrie said that its new set-up would help its engineers to work on upcoming testing standards and future energy efficiency levels as being laid out by Bureau of Standards (BIS) and (BEE).

Giorgio Rusignuolo, Vice President, Engineering, Global Commercial HVAC, UTC Climate, Controls & Security said, “At UTC, we are constantly trying to enhance engineering capabilities across our organization. The new development centre in India directly supports those efforts, enabling our team to develop and introduce new high-technology Carrier products for India.”

The new development centre enhances the existing engineering capabilities in by adding testing capabilities with new lab infrastructure as well as skill building of its engineers. The new lab facilities have multiple testing rooms with the capability to test HVAC equipment up to 22 tons and variable refrigerant flow products with lower GWP. Also, the test labs were built with energy-efficiency in mind and feature a modern control system to ensure optimal energy usage and energy savings, compared to traditional lab set-ups. The goal is for the centre to become an international engineering hub for developing products inside and outside of India.

Arun Bhatia, Managing Director, India, UTC Climate, Controls & Security, said, “The new development centre will also allow our engineers to focus on products that meet or surpass regulatory requirements for energy efficiency while using lower global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants. Carrier is fully supportive of ‘Make in India’ and the development centre will help us localize more energy-efficient products at our Gurgaon factory.”

The company said, “By investing in advanced engineering and development centers like in Gurgaon, our engineers have resources to develop the world’s most energy-efficient building solutions that reduce our greenhouse gas impact and lead the phase-out of ozone-depleting refrigerants. Carrier has led and been part of green building movements across the globe while becoming founding members of green building councils in many countries including the United States, China, France, Argentina, India and Singapore, among others.”
