Dhaka: The successful implementation of the (NEIR) system is viewed as a symbol of Bangladesh’s information technology capability. Instead of receiving foreign assistance, the project was carried out using indigenous technology and local skilled engineers.

Limited, a local company, is assisting the Bangladesh Regulatory Commission (BTRC) with the registration of all types of mobile handsets, as well as the detection of illegal and counterfeit handsets.

Meanwhile, all handsets used by customers on the network have been automatically registered with NEIR. The National Equipment Identity Registrar’s (NEIR) experimental activities began on July 1. The new mobile phones that will be added to the network will remain active on the network in order to verify the handset’s validity in NEIR.

If the handset is in good working order, it will be registered automatically. In November 2020, IT signed an agreement with BTRC to implement the NEIR project. They launched the NEIR system within the time frame specified in the agreement.

‘We have been able to launch NEIR in a timely manner and have implemented it with our own technology and local skilled engineers, which we consider to be a symbol of Bangladesh’s capability in IT,’ said Rupayan Chowdhury, Group CEO, Synesis IT
