Dhaka: Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has directed the licensed operators of BTRC to stop PUBG, Free Fire, and other harmful online games. The order was issued on behalf of the company in the wake of the court order.
BRTC’s director of engineering and operations on Wednesday. An emergency office order signed by Golam Razzak directed all mobile operators, IIG operators, ISPs, and KNX operators, including the chairman, managing director, and all BTRC licensed operators to stop these online games.
In the directive, BTRC’s licensed operators and heads of various operators’ organizations were asked to comply with the High Court order in this regard.
Earlier, the Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said he had instructed the BTRC to stop the harmful games after receiving a court order.
“We will act as directed by the court,” he said. “The apps or games they are talking about will be shut down very soon. The process of closing the apps has started. Free Fire and PUBG Games will be shut first. Links to other apps will be phased out as per the instructions.”
On August 16, the High Court ordered the shutting of all dangerous games, including PUBG and Free Fire, from the country’s online platform for three months.
The rule was issued to find out why these online games and video streaming apps like TikTok and Likee should not be stopped.
The post and telecommunications secretary, the BTRC chairman, the education secretary, the home secretary, the law secretary, the health secretary, and the inspector general of police have been named as defendants in the rule.
