Dhaka: Those companies doing business through Facebook are required to collect Business Identification Number (BIN), Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh said on Sunday after an emergency meeting of the Commerce Ministry on e-commerce companies.
The commerce secretary said the government would verify the business models of various e-commerce companies in the country, adding that the ministry would issue notices to companies that do not comply with the recently introduced e-commerce policy.
The ministry will also review their business models. If the business model of an organization is not in line with the current laws of the country, then necessary action will be taken against them.
He said all e-commerce companies currently doing business in the country must register with the Ministry of Commerce and collect BIN numbers.
If anyone fails to take BIN, their website will be shut down through BTRC. At the same time, companies doing business through Facebook also need to collect this number, he said.
In addition, the e-commerce platforms were instructed not to take money from new customers and pay the debts of old customers at the meeting of the Ministry of Commerce. The Commerce Secretary advised customers to file lawsuits against other e-commerce platforms, including Evaly, if they did not deliver or refund the goods within the stipulated time.
