The technology centre will be built on a 20-acre plot provided by the state government. Of the ₹170 crore investment, approximately ₹86 crore will go towards civil works and ₹84 crore towards plant and machinery, according to the ministry.

The built-up area will span approximately 16,800 square metres, comprising a production block, training block, utility block, administrative block, multipurpose hall, hostel and staff accommodation.

Services and training programmes

The centre will focus on general engineering, heavy engineering and textile testing. Production facilities will include tool room services for moulds, dies, jigs and fixtures, CNC machining, and CAD/CAM/CAE capabilities — computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering software used for product development and testing.

The facility will also house a rapid prototyping unit, an Industry 4.0 laboratory offering automation and smart manufacturing technologies, and systems.

Training programmes will cover emerging technology areas including artificial intelligence, of Things — networks of connected devices that communicate with each other — and data analytics. The centre will also offer courses in VLSI and embedded systems design, automation, quality control and textiles.

These programmes will range from short-term courses to longer industry-oriented certifications aligned with current manufacturing requirements.

Business development services will include market research, prototype development, Six Sigma quality practices, regulatory compliance guidance, supply chain management, digital marketing, branding, product design, modernisation consulting, automation advisory and incubation support for new enterprises.

Regional coverage and expected impact

The facility will serve MSME in six districts: Gaya, Aurangabad, Nawada, Nalanda, Jehanabad and Munger. According to the ministry, the centre aims to provide access to advanced manufacturing technologies, develop an industry-ready workforce and deliver essential technical and business advisory services to enable local enterprises to expand and compete in wider markets.

The ministry operates a nationwide network of technology centres and extension centres to support MSME competitiveness. These centres provide manufacturing support, training and technical services to small businesses across the country.

Southern Bihar and the Magadh region have historically had limited access to advanced manufacturing infrastructure compared to the state’s northern districts.

The technology centre in Gaya is intended to bridge this gap by establishing permanent training and production support facilities in the region. The centre’s location at Khizarsarai places it within reach of the six districts, potentially reducing travel and logistics costs for small manufacturers seeking technical services.

The ministry stated that the centre will support more than 1,000 local MSME annually through tooling activities and job work. The 7,000 annual trainee target covers both short-term skill development courses and longer certification programmes. These figures represent the ministry’s projections for the facility once it becomes fully operational.
