Qlik acquires Mozaic Data to bring data-as-a-product capability

Data analytics company Qlik has acquired Mozaic Data, a startup specialising in data-as-a-product, for an undisclosed sum.

Data analytics company has acquired Mozaic Data, a specialising in data-as-a-product, for an undisclosed sum. This acquisition aims to enhance business data handling through a product-oriented approach, anticipated to improve data quality and governance, the company stated.

As part of the acquisition, Mozaic’s founder, Sharad Kumar, has been appointed as the Regional Head of Data Integration and Quality at Qlik. The company intends to utilise Kumar’s expertise to enhance Qlik’s capabilities in developing a Data Product Catalog solution, designed to enable customers to use their data more efficiently and effectively.

Mozaic is known for its Data Product Experience Platform, operating on a decentralised architecture. This platform allows companies to build, secure, govern, deploy, and manage domain-centric data products in the cloud. These products, discoverable through a data product marketplace, are accessible via various consumption models, catering to a broad spectrum of business use cases.

The company expressed that this acquisition is likely to accelerate data deployment and usage across enterprises, particularly on cloud platforms such as Amazon Redshift, Databricks, Google BigQuery, Microsoft Fabric and .

“Customers recognise the significance of treating data as a product—a strategy that aligns with the need for a SaaS-based Data Product Catalog, offering a more efficient and user-friendly experience in managing the data lifecycle, whilst also establishing a robust foundation for AI-driven data management,” said Drew Clarke, General Manager, Data Business Unit at Qlik.

The integration of Mozaic into Qlik’s portfolio is expected to bring newer capability for the management of data as a product. The acquisition is in line with the increasing industry trend of viewing data as a product, known to expedite the implementation of new data-centric use cases by 90% and reduce the total cost of data ownership by 30%, as per a Harvard Business Review study.

Earlier in May this year, Qlik also acquired Talend, a company that helps in managing data from multiple sources. According to an industry expert, these strategic move significantly enhanced Qlik’s recent shift towards becoming a comprehensive end-to-end data platform.

“This presents an opportunity to enhance efficiency and in data management driven by AI, integrating seamlessly with Qlik’s upcoming projects,” said Kumar.
