Bangladesh: Corona pandemic pushes interest in digital banking services

According to the statistics of Bangladesh Bank in December last year, there are about 11.58 crore recipients in the country. Of these, 3 % are reported to be taking advantage of digital banking

Dhaka— The ongoing has shown a boon for digital banking services in Bangladesh, as customers preferring it to conventional banking. The money is now being transferred from one bank to another at home to get banking services. Apart from bank to bank, facility is also available due to the app-based services of the banks.

The interest of many customers in digital banking services has increased due to the lockdown and social distance in Corona Hygiene. All and private sector banks are focusing on digital services. As of May, last year, the number of subscribers in internet banking was 27.22 lakh.

This year the number has increased to 35.60 lakhs. In the interest of maintaining lockdown and social distance during Corona, customers are turning to digital banking services. The number of subscribers has increased to 8.38 lakh from May last year till May this year.

However, with the growing the interest of consumers in digital banking, banks are also leaning towards the development of digital banking system.

 This will reduce the rate of physical presence of people in the local branches of the bank.

Selim RF Hossain, and Managing Director of BRAC Bank, said, “It is our responsibility to introduce the new system to the recipients.”

Digital banking is no longer unfamiliar. Banks should make this system easier. This will allow customers to easily gain their trust and interest in digital banking and online transactions, he added.
