Technology News Live Updates 23 April 2022: WhatsApp now supports group voice calls with up to 32 participants, a step toward the feature's expansion into WhatsApp Communities. This is one of a number of new features that the social media messaging platform is reportedly introducing. WhatsApp last increased the maximum number of participants in group calls in 2020. Other features reportedly in development or beta testing include a new caption view when sending media and the ability to include additional recipients within a chat thread, a redesigned location sticker, the ability to save disappearing messages, and additional emojis for message reactions, and advanced privacy settings.
In other tech news, amid revival buzz, top Indian IT giant HCL Technologies saw its net profit swell to Rs 3,593 crore for the quarter ended March 2022. The ‘buoyant' market environment helped in ‘strong momentum across verticals and service lines. The net profit was Rs 1,102 crore in the year-ago period.
HCL reported the March quarter net profit at Rs 3,593 crore, which was 4.4 per cent higher on a quarter-on-quarter basis. On a comparative basis, the net profit was up 23.9 per cent year-on-year.
“For comparison purposes, net income of Q4 FY'21 and full-year FY'21 excludes the impact of one-time milestone bonus paid to employees (USD 78.8 million, Rs 575 crore net of tax) and the DTL (Deferred Tax Liabilities) on Goodwill impact in the tax expense (USD 165.1 million, Rs 1,222 crore) in Q4 FY'21,” a company statement said.
In other developments today, Kyndryl, a recently spun-off IBM subsidiary, announced an expanded strategic partnership with German enterprise software maker SAP. The two companies will leverage each other's technology to target customers in diverse regions.
The company stated that as part of this agreement, it will offer services that complement the newly marketed suite of products under ‘RISE with SAP solution'.
Also, on the hand, American enterprise data management systems firm Cloudera said it is ramping up investments in India with the opening of its revamped and newly expanded Center of Excellence (CoE) facility in Koramangala, Bengaluru. The company also plans on investing up to Rs 500 crores over the next two years to accelerate product innovation, cloud transformation, and drive customer growth.
In public sector development, Suman K. Bery was appointed vice-chairman of NITI Aayog by the Centre, following Rajiv Kumar's sudden resignation. Bery will assume command on May 1, 2022, according to an official order.
