Keeping pace with the Union government's ambitious digitisation plan, the Union IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has cleared a proposal to bring internet connectivity to about 12,000 villages across Uttarakhand under the BharatNet 2.0 project.
The Union IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad confirmed that all the 12,000 villages will be connected via optical fibre internet through Bharat Net and mobile connectivity in state border areas will be improved.

The announcement comes after the Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat held a meeting with Union IT Minister Ravishankar Prasad in New Delhi earlier in the day.
Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, in a series of tweets later confirmed that the Union minister of communications, electronics and information technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad has approved to start Bharat Net 2.0 project in Uttarakhand, which will connect about 12,000 villages of the state with the internet.

The new project will connect twelve thousand villages of Uttarakhand with the internet in the second phase of the BharatNet project. “The implementation of the state-led model of the BharatNet project is very necessary because of Uttarakhand's difficult geographic location, strategic significance and vulnerability to natural disasters,” Rawat told the Union minister.
Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand chief minister has also sought the Centre's administrative and financial approvals for the project at the earliest to avoid unnecessary delay. During the meeting with Ravi Shankar Prasad the two also agreed to strengthen digital connectivity in the Chardham area and boost internet connectivity in border areas of the state.
The chief minister has also requested the Centre to implement the India Enterprise Architecture project in Uttarakhand on a priority basis so that key departments like agriculture, health and education could be computerised all over the state.
