Huawei launches machine learning capable new Ascend-series AI chips

By 2025, the world is likely to see 40 billion personal smart devices and 90% of those device users will have a smart digital assistant. This will increase the data utilization to 86% and AI services will be readily available, as prevalent as the air we breathe, this is what Chinese ICT giant says about the future of (AI).

To tap this market, company's Chairman Eric Xu shared Huawei's AI strategy and its full-stack AI portfolio in a recently held conference. Primarily, Huawei's AI portfolio includes its new Ascend series of AI chips which company claims to be the world's first AI IP and chip. Eric Xu said that ICT firm was building new products and cloud services on Ascend chip capabilities.

Eric Xu said that his company was taking proactive steps towards a better future in AI. Those steps are based on ten key factors such as building faster model training, making computing power affordable, balancing between AI deployment and user privacy, developing new algorithms and searching for available talent.

“Huawei's AI strategy is to invest in basic research and talent development, build a full-stack, all-scenario AI portfolio, and foster an open global ecosystem,” said Eric Xu, adding that his company will continue exploring ways to improve management and efficiency with AI.”

Sharing insight on its various AI-based services and solutions, Eric Xu said, “In the telecom sector, we will adopt SoftCOM AI to make network O&M more efficient. In the consumer market, HiAI will bring true intelligence to our consumer devices, making them smarter than ever. Our Huawei EI public cloud services and FusionMind private cloud solutions will provide abundant and affordable computing power for all organizations – especially businesses and governments – and help them use AI with greater ease. Our portfolio will also include an AI acceleration card, AI server, AI appliance, and other products.”
