With the of Things (IoT) taking centre stage in 4.0, companies are using IoT solution to improve the efficiency of their different arms leading to the increased sale and customer satisfaction. Recently, Footwear maker Paragon has implemented an IoT based tracking solution to manage fleet idle time, misuse, fuel pilferage and improve driver behaviour.

“Paragon aimed to address the issues of unexpected delays due to vehicle breakdown or wrong routes taken, leading to unpleasant incidents by errant drivers. This led to the search for an IoT-based solution to remotely track and monitor Paragons’ fleet in real-time in order to prevent vehicle misuse, idle time in the logistics chain and even driver behaviour,” said company’s IT partner.

To address this challenge, the home-grown firm decided to implement IoT solutions which connect all the vehicle and digitize their supply chain, giving real-time information about the whereabouts of its fleets. “Since footwear is a distributor-retailer led , all of these were critical for ensuring that supplies reach the market on time, every time,” said a company spokesperson.

The Kerala-born company said that after a thorough research of the IT vendor in India and as a first step towards digitizing its supply chain, it selected  Sify Technologies which in turn has partnered with leading GIS mapping and IoT service provider Aeris for providing tracking solution to footwear maker.

Both Sify and Aeris work together to build IoT solutions which were deployed across Paragon nation-wide fleet, making them a single connected entity. Under their partnership, Sify and Aeris offer IoT as managed services to Indian businesses. Their solutions rely on a Cloud iteration of IoT services. For example, in the case of Paragon, the Wi-Fi and Internet Service (ISP) related solutions from Sify was bundled with propriety IoT solutions and managed services from Aeris.

Footwear is not alone, with the growing use cases, there has been a significant deployment of IoT in the country. According to a report from IT body Nasscom, the number of IoT devices in India is expected to increase significantly from 200 million units in 2016 to 2.7 billion units by 2020.
