UIDAI has added an extra layer of security for Aadhaar holders by introducing facial authentication in “fusion” with fingerprints and Iris.
A Security researcher alias Elliot Alderson has tweeted a serious security vulnerability in UIDAI’s mAadhaar app for Android devices. According to the researcher, the app is saving user sensitive data including the biometric data in a password protected local database which put Aadhaar data at risk.
Responding to a news reports on Aadhar data leak, UIDAI said that the Aadhaar data is fully safe and secure and there has been no data leak or breach
As per July 2017 data, 128 crore sim cards was estimated to be in India and out of those about 33.8 crore cards have been linked with Aadhaar.
With government making it clear that all the mobile numbers that have not been linked to a Aadhaar card by February next year will be deactivated. It has become mandatory now for all the mobile numbers to be linked to Aadhaar card.
Even after Supreme judgement on ‘Right to Privacy’, the Union government is moving with its earlier plan of linking all prepaid and postpaid mobile SIM cards to Aadhaar and deactivating all unlinked SIM cards after February 2018.
