The proposed merger between Vodafone and Idea Cellular is a credit positive for the telecom sector and will push the combined entity's margins up by around 3 percentage points on cost synergies, India Ratings said.

Airtel to rejig shareholding structure of overseas arms

The board of telecom major Bharti Airtel approved rejig of its overseas arms that will now operate under its wholly-owned Mauritius-based subsidiary Network i2i Ltd.
"Till now, our focus was on online sales. Now, we will focus both on online and offline distribution. We expect our share from offline to grow from current 10 per cent to 20-25 per cent by the end of this year. This is our aspiration," Xiaomi India Head Manu Kumar Jain said.
