New Delhi – Telecom regulator TRAI on Monday released findings from an independent drive test assessing mobile network quality in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, showing gaps in call performance for some operators.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India said the tests were conducted between Aug 11 and Aug 14 across 346.9 km of city routes, 12 hotspot locations, and a 1.7 km walk test at Etawah railway station.
The exercise evaluated 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G services under real-world conditions, covering neighbourhoods, transport hubs, institutions and high-speed corridors.

Among key metrics, Airtel and Vodafone Idea recorded a call setup success rate of 100%, while Reliance Jio stood at 99.64%.
State-owned BSNL lagged with a success rate of 64.25%. Call drop rates were lowest for Airtel at 0%, while Jio and Vodafone Idea reported 0.18% each. BSNL registered the highest drop rate at 6.90%.
The regulator said tests also covered data performance, measuring download and upload speeds, latency, jitter, packet drop rates and video streaming delays. Speech quality, measured through the Mean Opinion Score, was also evaluated.

The assessment included dense localities such as Karhal, Jaswantnagar and Vijay Nagar, as well as key institutions including B.R. Ambedkar Engineering College, Saifai Medical College and Etawah bus and railway stations.
TRAI said the results have been shared with all telecom service providers for corrective measures.
