Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the fifth edition of SEMICON India 2026, the country’s largest semiconductor and electronics conference, at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi on 17 September. The three-day event, running until 19 September, will bring together over 600 exhibitors, including 300 international companies and delegations from more than 40 countries, according to organisers.
The conference is being held at a significant juncture in India’s semiconductor journey. Three of the 12 projects approved under the first phase of the Semicon India Programme have commenced commercial production, while the Union Cabinet has approved Semicon 2.0 with six pillars aimed at accelerating ecosystem development. The theme for this year’s edition is ‘Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem’.
Jointly organised by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), a nodal body under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and SEMI, the global industry association for semiconductor manufacturing, the event will feature 150 speakers, six country pavilions and 12 state pavilions across 15,000 square metres of exhibition space, said a statement.
SEMICON India participation
Organisers said that the leading global and Indian companies are expected to participate, including ASML, Applied Materials, Teradyne, Infineon, Jabil, IBM Research, NXP, Tata Electronics, Micron, Merck KGaA, Rapidus, Lam Research, CG Power, Uno Minda, Advantest and Tokyo Electron. The event will provide a platform for exploring partnerships, investment opportunities and supply-chain linkages.
A dedicated startup pavilion will showcase around 40 semiconductor startups, while a workforce development pavilion will focus on talent and career opportunities in the microelectronics sector. The conference will also feature a startup pitch competition, student hackathon and innovation showcase.

The three-day programme includes keynotes and panel discussions on semiconductor manufacturing, artificial intelligence, supply-chain resilience, advanced packaging and chip design. Six international country roundtables, a session on women empowerment and leadership and a workforce development session are also scheduled.
Policy developments
Under the Semicon India Programme, the government has approved 12 semiconductor projects aimed at establishing domestic manufacturing capability. State-of-the-art electronic design automation tools, which are software platforms used to design semiconductor chips, have been made available to more than 400 academic institutions and 105 startups. Additionally, 24 startups have been approved under the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme to develop semiconductor products.
MeitY said a new exhibition segment called ‘Sand to Silicon to Systems‘ will provide visitors with an integrated view of the semiconductor value chain, showing India’s expanding capabilities from materials and manufacturing to advanced packaging, design and electronics systems.
India’s semiconductor demand, currently estimated at around $50 billion, is projected to reach approximately $103 billion by 2030, according to government estimates. The global semiconductor market, valued at around $796 billion in 2025, is projected to surpass $2 trillion by 2030.
