In a move to boost the connectivity in the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir, top operator Airtel has announced to deploy an additional 5MHz spectrum in the 900MHz band in the state.

The move is likely to boost the indoor experience in the state and enhance high-speed data services. Airtel has also deployed advanced network technologies and tools such as pre-5G Massive MIMO, 4G Advanced, and Carrier Aggregation to step up high-speed network capacity and coverage.

“The high propagation and reach of 900 MHz spectrum enables wider network availability and improved data speeds along with better coverage inside homes and buildings in urban and rural areas,” the company said in a statement.

The company has also rolled out an additional 30MHz spectrum in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh in the 1800 and 2300 bands to boost network capacity.

The new spectrum deployment, according to Airtel, complements the recent spectrum rollout across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, and will also strengthen its network capabilities that will benefit the end-users.

According to Airtel, it has the largest spectrum bank at 71.2MHz in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh with 40MHz in 2300MHz band, 25MHz in 1800MHz+2100MHz bands, and 6.2MHz in 900MHz band.

“The deployment of 5 MHz in 900 MHz spectrum band for high-speed data services is in line with our endeavour to deliver deep indoor & wider reach to our customers across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. We continue to invest aggressively on network upgrades and new spectrum to deliver world-class service experience at a time when our customers need it the most,” said Manu Sood, Hub CEO – Upper North, Bharti Airtel.

Airtel, which operates in 18 countries, including India, Sri Lanka, and 14 African nations, and joint ventures in two more – had over 471 million users compared with 458 million at the end of December.
