Taiwanese firm that specialises in network-attached storage (NAS) appliances solutions launched its latest high-density storage server, the HD6500, capable of accommodating up to 4.8 petabytes, at a press briefing in New Delhi. The event also spotlighted the company's new initiatives to combat ransomware attacks, which have been escalating in frequency and severity across India.

, Country Manager of Synology for the SAARC region, addressed the media, focusing on how recent legislation, specifically the Digital Personal Act (DPDPA), is reshaping the landscape of data management in India. “The new compliance requirements are setting a higher standard for data governance among SMEs, which now need to enhance their data breach response strategies and appoint Data Protection Officers in many cases,” Chen stated.

The briefing included a live demonstration of Synology's Active Backup Suite and Snapshot Replication tools. These solutions are designed to provide robust protection against data loss due to ransomware attacks, said the company. Chen detailed the preventative measures integrated within their systems, including Secure SignIn, a framework that bolsters the security of user logins through multifactor authentication.

“Active Backup for Business was showcased as a cornerstone for centralized data protection, simplifying the management of backup activities across diverse IT environments,” Chen explained. He demonstrated the effectiveness of these tools by simulating a ransomware attack and then using Snapshot Replication to quickly restore the data to its original state.

Highlighting the company's growth, Chen said a 20% increase in market share in the past year, attributed to rising demands from SMBs and large enterprises in India. “Our market growth is further supported by India's growing status as a data center hub and the government's increased focus on cybersecurity investments,” he added.

Chen said that Synology is gearing up for another year of significant growth in the enterprise sector. “We are developing more innovative solutions and hardware set to launch later this year, which will equip businesses to better manage the evolving data security challenges,” he said.
