Key Points
- iPhone Ultra foldable may cost ₹2.47 lakh based on leaked Vodafone Egypt pricing
- iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max expected to see 10 per cent price increase over predecessors
- Apple event on 9 September to be John Ternus's first as CEO
Apple‘s first foldable iPhone, tentatively named the iPhone Ultra, could cost approximately ₹2.47 lakh in India, according to pricing information briefly visible on Vodafone Egypt’s website before being removed. The leak, spotted by tech researcher Yousif Ayman, also revealed pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max ahead of Apple’s expected announcement on 9 September.
The Vodafone Egypt listing showed the iPhone Ultra at EGP 155,750, roughly 65 per cent more expensive than the iPhone 17 Pro Max at EGP 94,400 in the same market. Applying this percentage increase to international launch prices suggests the foldable could retail at approximately $1,980 in the United States, £1,980 in the United Kingdom, €2,395 in the eurozone and ₹2.47 lakh in India.
For Indian consumers, this would position Apple’s foldable significantly above Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8, which launched at ₹1.8 lakh. The pricing gap suggests Apple is targeting the premium segment of an already expensive device category.
iPhone 18 Pro pricing
The same leak indicated the iPhone 18 Pro at EGP 98,000 and the iPhone 18 Pro Max at EGP 105,000. Compared to current generation pricing in Egypt, this represents approximately a 10 per cent increase for the Pro model and 11 per cent for the Pro Max.
Using the iPhone 17 Pro’s launch prices as a baseline, the 10 per cent increase would translate to approximately $1,210 in the United States, £1,210 in the United Kingdom, €1,430 in the eurozone and ₹1.48 lakh in India for the iPhone 18 Pro. The iPhone 18 Pro Max could retail at approximately $1,320, £1,320, €1,600 and ₹1.65 lakh respectively.

Separate pricing data posted on social media platform X by user @ev_downunder indicated the 256GB iPhone Ultra would cost AUD 3,700 in Australia, with 512GB and 1TB variants at AUD 4,200 and AUD 4,700 respectively. This Australian pricing shows a 68 per cent premium over the iPhone 17 Pro Max, largely consistent with the Vodafone Egypt figures.
Component costs rising
The expected price increases align with analysis from market research firm TrendForce, which estimated that the Bill of Materials, meaning the total cost of components required to manufacture the device, for the iPhone 18 Pro is 40 per cent higher than for the iPhone 17 Pro. TrendForce analysts had projected the new Pro model with 256GB storage could carry a retail price of $1,400, making a $1,200 price point a relatively moderate increase.
The iPhone Ultra is expected to be a wide-format foldable, similar in form factor to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series rather than the clamshell design used by the Galaxy Z Flip range. This would make it Apple’s first entry into the foldable smartphone segment, where Samsung has dominated for several years.
John Ternus, who became Apple’s chief executive officer earlier this year, is expected to host the 9 September event. This would be his first product launch presentation as CEO. Based on the leaked information, pre-orders for the new models could begin on Friday 11 September, two days after the announcement.
The standard iPhone 18, which typically launches alongside thePro models, may not appear at the September event. Reports suggest the base model could be delayed until next year, though Apple has not confirmed its product timeline.
Different markets carry varying tax structures and import duties, meaning direct currency conversions from Egyptian pounds to other currencies rarely reflect actual retail prices. However, the percentage differences between model tiers tend to remain relatively consistent across markets, making the leaked Egyptian pricing a useful indicator of Apple’s global pricing strategy.
