Clubhouse android app launched after 66% dip on iOs downloads

The audio-only app hosts virtual rooms for live discussions, with opportunities for individuals to participate through speaking and listening

Live audio app Clubhouse has launched a version of its app for Google Android users in the United States. The platform is an invitation-only social media app for that facilitates auditory communication through rooms that can accommodate groups of up to 5,000 people.

The audio-only app hosts virtual rooms for live discussions, with opportunities for individuals to participate through speaking and listening. With this, the platform looks to expand its user base that seems to have shrunk in the past few months.

Clubhouse clocked about 922,000 downloads globally in April, as compared to 2.7 million downloads in March and an all-time high of 9.6 million in February according to app analysis platform Sensor Tower. The company has overall taken a hit of 66% downloads since March.

The announcement also comes after Twitter announced to expand its social audio product space, a move that will allow any user on iOS or Android with 600 or more followers to start hosting a ‘Space’ on its apps.

As the competition to get more space in the social audio segment grows several other technology companies including Facebook, Spotify, LinkedIn, , , and are also among those planning to either launch or develop their own products in the segment.
