Japanese tech firm NEC to set up new R&D centre in India

The Japanese technology firm NEC Corporation is setting up research and development centre in Mumbai to focus on the global expansion of its solutions.

The Japanese technology firm is setting up research and development centre in to focus on the global expansion of its solutions. The company informed that the new laboratories will be established in July 2018 within NEC existing campus. Akihiko Iketani, senior manager, Central Research Laboratories will lead the operations.

The new centre will promote development and commercialization of solutions for India and other emerging countries in collaboration with NECTI's Centers of Excellence, said NEC Corporation in a statement.

NECTI Center of Excellence is a development site with the advanced know-how that operates in a wide array of fields, including Biometrics, Analytics, and Retail.

“We need to take a long-term perspective and address community-based research and development activities to win the confidence of local customers and partners. The establishment of a research and development site in India, where there is a wealth of IT talent, will enable us to create solutions that are valuable for the whole world through agile research and development,” said Motoo Nishihara, senior vice president, NEC Corporation.

The company executive asserted that the new business would utilize local know-how, big data and existing partnerships to create new solutions in the fields of public transportation and logistics, public safety, digital government and cashless payment.

The company is already working with some of the government organisations and enterprises in India in this segment.
