Saharanpur Smart City onboards NEC India as master system integrator

New Delhi — Japanese technology firm said that it has been selected by Limited (SSCL) as the master system integrator for implementation of the Integrated Command and Control Centre & Smart Components.

The project is expected to be completed by September 2021, with NEC India also contracted to manage the operation and maintenance of the systems for five years.

The scope of the project comprises of design, supply, installation, commissioning, testing and operations and management of pan-city smart solutions. This also includes the setting up of an Integrated Command and Control Centre, Integrated Traffic Management System, Environmental Sensors, E-Governance Kiosks, City GIS platforms at locations designated by the Saharanpur Municipal Corporation (SMC).

By harnessing the technological prowess and delivery capability of a global giant like NEC, we aim to develop Saharanpur into a sustainable and secure smart city.”

Saharanpur was identified from the 100 Smart Cities by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs as a part of its Smart Cities Mission. 

“Our expertise in providing cutting-edge solutions to model safe and secure smart cities in India, will be the vantage point for NEC to ensure timely and seamless operations of the Saharanpur Smart City project. This new win is a validation to our outstanding work with various governing bodies and the advanced solutions we provide that goes beyond the RFP requirements,” said Aalok Kumar, President & CEO of NEC Corporation India.

The contract with SSCL will incorporate high-end monitoring systems with the aid of cameras at crucial traffic junctures throughout the city. The Intelligent Traffic Management System will be designed to integrate Traffic Sensing Cameras along with the Adaptive Traffic Control Systems. The Automatic Traffic Violation Detection mechanism will ensure the timely logging of various traffic violations, like red light violations, riding without a helmet, overcapacity on two-wheelers, among others.

NEC will also provide a City Mobile Application, SAHART, which will help the authorities deliver services, address public concerns and solicit resident feedback to aid the operations of the Smart City project. NEC has already deployed its delivery team and formally initiated the project execution works in the city, said the company.

NEC India said it has already implemented large and complex ICT projects in cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Pune, Hubballi-Dharwad, Kalyan Dombivali and Gurugram.
