Indian IT consulting firm has expanded its operations in with the inauguration of a new Global Delivery Center (GDC) in Iasi. This development is part of the company's strategy to strengthen its nearshore services for its global clientele.

The new Iasi center is set to provide digital, engineering, cloud, and AI solutions. This expansion in Romania is a strategic move for the Indian IT major, indicating its commitment to the region and its aim to enhance its service offerings, said the company.

“This is a significant milestone for HCLTech in Romania as we continue our growth journey and serve our global clients with new capabilities in the latest technologies,” Iulian Paduraru, Country Head for Romania at HCLTech, said, underscoring the company's investment in local talent and community engagement.

Mihai Chirica, Mayor of Iași, acknowledged HCLTech's role in the local technology sector. “HCLTech has become a key player in Romania's technology services industry and the new delivery center is another proof of the company's commitment to growing the technology ecosystem in Iasi and in the entire country,” he stated.

The inauguration of the center was attended by company's senior leadership, including C Vijayakumar, CEO and Managing Director, and Rahul Singh, Chief Operating Officer. The event also featured discussions on the integration of technology in business and the adaptation of the workforce for future challenges.

HCLTech has been present in Romania for five years, with a workforce of approximately 1,000 employees across Bucharest, Iasi, and Brasov. The company is recognised as a Top Employer in 25 countries and holds a leading position in Romania.

This expansion aligns with the trend of global technology companies leveraging Eastern Europe's growing IT sector. Romania, in particular, has become attractive for foreign investment in technology, benefiting from a skilled workforce, economic conditions, and geographical positioning.

HCLTech's new GDC in Iasi is expected to contribute to job creation, skills development, and the local economy, reflecting a symbiotic relationship between the company and Romania's technology landscape.
