Google announces support for Tamil: Here’s how you can monetise Tamil website with Google AdSense

After Hindi and Bengali, AdWords and Adsense to now support Tamil

Months after opening of its AdWords and services for content creators and advertisers of Hindi and Bengali languages, now Google has launched Tamil language support for its advertising products – Google AdWords and Google AdSense. With this announcement, now Tamil language web publishers will able to monetise their platform. Similarly, advertisers will be able to place ads in Tamil language.

“Advertisers will now be able to develop a rich and seamless campaigns to target their audience through Tamil-language search and display ads. In addition to that, content creators who have websites and blogs in Tamil will be able to sign up for Google Adsense and run ads on their content and attract advertisers from across the globe,” said Google in a statement.

According to multiple reports, large number of users in India are using Internet in the vernacular languages. Many of them are not vey fluent in English. So companies like Google are ensuring that their key products and services are aligned with the need of people. For example, India has 234 million Indian language users who are online compared to 175 million English web users and it is expected another 300 million Indian language users will come online in the next four years.

“Majority of India's Internet users are not fluent in English, and we have been very focussed on enabling Indian language support across our key products to make the Internet more useful for everyone. With the launch of Tamil support in our advertising products, today we are enabling both the content creators and advertisers to connect with the Indian language users in their languages. We saw a huge acceleration in Hindi content creation, when we launched support for Hindi languages, and we hope that the addition of new languages like Bengali and now Tamil will provide the necessary boost to content creation in local languages and grow digital advertising in Indian languages,” said Shalini Girish, Director – Google Marketing Solutions, Google India.

Google AdSense

Google AdSense is an advertising placement service by Google. The program is designed for website publishers who want to display targeted text, video or image advertisements on website pages and earn money when site visitors view or click the ads.

Google AdWords

Google AdWords is an advertising service by Google for businesses wanting to display ads on Google and its advertising network. The AdWords program enables businesses to set a for advertising and only pay when people click the ads. The ad service is largely focused on keywords.

How to monetise Tamil website with Google AdSense

Step 1: Login to your Google Account
Step 2: Check Google Adsense Policy for Tamil Content, make sure your website is compliant before making application
Step 3: Go to Sign up page for an AdSense account
Step 4: Once you have submitted the form, Google Adsense team will take few days to process your request. If you are approved or not approved, you will receive an email.
Step 4: If you have been approved, Go to Adsense dashboard and start adding the AdSense code to display relevant ads to your website.
